Boston Pops on Nantucket

There’s nothing quite like a summer evening along the Nantucket seashore. Here at Greydon House, we put you in shouting distance of the island’s beautiful waterfront and beaches—and, of course, the various events that go down along them this season.

On that subject, we hope you’ll come join us at our boutique hotel on August 12 for this year’s Boston Pops on Nantucket!

Boston Pops on Nantucket: An August Tradition

This always-popular concert—a Nantucket tradition since the late 1990s—sees the beloved Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra put on a captivating show at Jetties Beach for a good cause: Proceeds benefit the Nantucket Cottage Hospital, for which this event is the year’s biggest fundraiser. The exhilarating music comes followed up by a seaside fireworks show.

Some Very Special Guests

Conductor Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra always welcome a special musical guest for their Nantucket program, and this year some absolute legends are joining the proceedings: The Beach Boys. We’d say the band and their iconic sand-and-surf hits make a pretty appropriate soundtrack for the Nantucket oceanfront, and it’ll be a thrill to hear them backed up by the world-class orchestra.

The Boston Pops: Going Strong Since the 1880s

That orchestra claims a prestigious history: The Boston Pops dates from 1885, a spinoff series of the Boston Symphony Orchestra founded only four years before by Henry Lee Higginson, a veteran of the Civil War. The whole Boston Pops idea is bringing symphonic music to as wide an audience as possible with programs of popular classics and modern hits.

Lockhart has conducted the Boston Pops for 23 years, sturdily ushering this American institution into the 21st century.

The Show

The Boston Pops on Nantucket show begins at 6:45 PM, with gates opening at Jetties Beach at 4:30. In addition to the orchestra’s tunes with and without the Beach Boys, the concert will include a performance of the National Anthem.

You can purchase a general-admission ticket for first-come, first-served seating or reserve table seating.
