4th of July Events on Nantucket Island

July 4, 2018 marks the 242nd birthday of the United States, and today we’re extending a hearty invitation to spend the occasion with us here at Greydon House on Nantucket!

We’ll treat you to exceptional boutique hospitality here in the heart of Nantucket Town, and meanwhile you’ll enjoy the perfect access to our island’s delightful Fourth of July traditions. But don’t wait too long to book a room with us: America’s birthday bash is just around the corner, after all…

Old-fashioned summertime fun awaits at Nantucket’s Fourth of July Main Street celebration, held from 10 AM to 12:30 PM on Independence Day just a hop, skip, and a jump from Greydon House. What exactly’s on tap? A whole passel of classic, good-humored games and activities: face-painting, ring tosses, watermelon- and pie-eating contests, a community sing-along and more. It all culminates with the annual water fight enacted by the Town of Nantucket Fire Department and the Boynton Lake Reserves: a can’t-miss affair slated for high noon, like all respectable showdowns.

(You can certainly participate in the big water fight, but keep in mind the organizers are asking folks not to use water balloons, the shreds of which can end up in the harbor. “Like you,” the Town of Nantucket writes, “we prefer our Nantucket Bay Scallops without a ‘side of balloon.’”)

Children’s Beach, meanwhile, will be hosting kid-friendly games and bandstand music the evening of the Fourth.

The Independence Day fireworks this year fall not on the Fourth but on July 5th. The pyrotechnic display goes down at 9 PM that day at Jetties Beach, just a mile from Greydon House; you’ll be able to hop the NRTA Wave bus to reach the beach that evening. (You can take a gander at the bus schedule for the fireworks right here.)

Besides the Fourth of July festivities themselves, you’ll of course have Nantucket’s famous summer guise to relish, from sailboat to beachfront to bike path. And with a room at Greydon House, you’ll have our unmatched accommodations, amenities, service, and boutique style to enjoy throughout—including outstanding on-site cuisine at our restaurant. Book your Greydon House Fourth of July getaway today, and we’ll see you for the pie-eating, water fights, and fireworks here on our captivating little island!

Treat yourself to some boutique hospitality this Fourth of July with a getaway to Greydon House, and while you’re at it take part in Nantucket Town’s well-attended holiday celebrations just a quick stroll from your guest room!

Experience the Fourth of July on Nantucket

It’ll be another good old-fashioned community Independence Day festival on tap for Nantucket Town on Thursday, July 4th (and the following, fireworks-spiced evening).

The Town of Nantucket Department of Culture & Tourism presents the Main Street Fourth of July bash, which kicks off at 10 AM. Two hours later—High Noon, as the organizers dramatically put it—comes one of the defining highlights of this annual carnival: a good-spirited water fight between the town’s fire department and the Boynton Lane Reserves. If you plan on enjoying the spectacle from a Main Street perch, prepare to get nicely soaked.

The Fourth of July fun continues over at Children’s Beach, where a whole slew of kids’ games—from tug-of-bar contests to potato sack races—will begin at 5 PM. At 6 PM, there’ll be a concert in the bandstand.

The Fireworks at Jetties Beach

The big town fireworks display will go down at Jetties Beach the next day: Friday, July 5th at 9 PM. (If it’s inclement weather, the rain date is the following night.) Nothing says America’s birthday like some rip-roaring pyrotechnics, and you’ll definitely have some to enjoy a mere mile or so from Greydon House. (There’ll be regular bus service between the Whaling Museum—just steps away from us here on Broad Street—and Jetties Beach that night to make fireworks-viewing that much more convenient.)

Make Greydon House Your Independence Day Headquarters This Year

When you’re not getting wet during the noontide water fight on Main Street, enjoying the live tunes at the Children’s Beach bandstand, or admiring the fireworks spiders and palm-shells over the harbor, you’ll love your gorgeous guest room and our all-around hospitality here at Greydon House. Besides the handsome private oasis of your room and all our on-site amenities, you’ll get to enjoy premier Nantucket dining at our very own restaurant, Via Mare, where you can toast the occasion over some garden- and ocean-inspired small plates.

Our hotel, outfitted with a charismatic old-meets-new aesthetic, provides the perfect perch right in the heart of town for a Nantucket Fourth of July spectacular: Book your boutique lodgings with us for the holiday today!
