First Day of Spring: A Reason to Vacation on Nantucket
Mother Nature’s certainly been brewing up quite a few nor’easters lately, but the tide’s most definitely turning—we’re just days away from the first day of spring!
Why not celebrate that astronomical benchmark by booking a vernal getaway to Greydon House here on the magical isle of Nantucket? The big crowds of summer are still a ways away, the temperatures are heading in the right direction, and all those fabulous natural harbingers of the season—budding trees, blooming wildflowers, mellifluous birds—are starting to once again transform the island countryside.
Another Sign of Spring: The Restaurant at Greydon House Opening for the Season
One reason to treat yourself to a spring vacation on Nantucket with Greydon House? Our fantastic on-site restaurant opens for the 2018 season on March 15th, just in time for the seasonal switchover!
Executive Chef Marcus Gleadow-Ware, who came to the Greydon House kitchen from the illustrious Michelin-starred New York City restaurant Aureole, serves up elegant but accessible modern American cuisine that draws from classic Nantucket and New England cookery, a little Old World inspiration here and there, and the culinary delights of locally sourced ingredients. Given our maritime digs, it’s no surprise seafood takes a starring role on the Greydon House menu.
Indoor dining at the Greydon House restaurant will charm you head to toe, whether in the Bohemian-styled bar or the dining room surveying Broad Street. When the weather cooperates, though—and it often does in spring—you can also enjoy al fresco meals on the veranda or terrace.
A Spring Tradition: The Nantucket Daffodil Festival
Coming up the last weekend of April, meanwhile, is one of the island’s great celebrations of the spring rebirth: the Daffodil Festival, put on each year by the Nantucket Island Chamber of Commerce. Alongside parades, picnics, art shows, and various good-natured competitions (including the popular Daffy Hat Contest), the festival hosts the Community Annual Daffodil Show, a feast for the senses and just about the perfect symbolic sum-up of Nantucket springtime.
This year’s Daffodil Festival goes down April 27th through the 29th. You can get a better sense for the events and activities by taking a gander at last year’s itinerary.
